GREED IN OUR SOCIETY

“Ask for what you need and we will gladly comply, but society often confuses a real need with a want, so be wise and do not fall into temptations,” said my parents as a response to my constant arguments about superfluous items that I desired. I needed a communication device since my parents must know where I am at, if I am not home. With that in mind, I asked for a brand new phone, one with the newest advances in technology. Unfortunately, I had not spent a single month with it and had already lost it. Because of that, I was punished and since I still needed a phone, they bought one that would serve that purpose “phone calls”. I believe greed can have a significant impact on all aspects of life, whether you are young or old. I actually have had that phone ever since and learned my lesson.

There is a really thin line between what we want and need, and people often confuse them. I will say from personal expertise that it is something that we do not even realise. Our society looks at things that are wanted or desired and form up the craziest excuses to be able to say that it is needed. We have a tendency to see a “Sale” sign and we automatically go into the store. We make businessmen and women richer while we fill ourselves with greed. And if you have no savings and use credit cards to buy, you acquire a lot of debts. No one will erase that debt but many people will keep using propaganda to fool you. These things that we see that make us buy things we do not need, were created by someone no smarter than you. Those who make commercial advertising generate a desire in the potential customer, making the client susceptible to purchase a superfluous items in an impulsive way. However we must be able to resist to temptations, keep in mind that we have the last choice and we make our own decisions.

If you desire something because you wish to accomplish a goal that is ambition while if you have no goal at all in life and desire what you do not need that is greed. This applies to everyone and everything because if you need an update in technology in your line of work or study you must make it. We live in a world where technology binds us and bonds us. New advancements and new discoveries become the foremost
