apartment renting and house buying, while whites are nearly always offered the beautiful and well-kept apartments and houses. One can go to almost any city and can tell where the people of color live and where the whites live and it shouldn’t be that way. If someone can easily tell where a certain type of people live almost instantly, how can America erase all of their thinking and subject them to be color-blind and not categorize people in that manner when it happens naturally? It happens naturally because the moment racism occurred in history and in this world, there became a divide amongst the people. Regarding the white citizens who state that they do not see color already, and if majority do not, then why does unequal schooling and job opportunities between whites and people of color occur? Whites are given a better education than blacks, period. More often than not this is the case, they even have better jobs and occupations due to that education. The person of color and the white person could have gone to the same university or learning institution, obtained the same degree, and offered the same job. The outcome and the figuring out of who gets the job is where the real decision making comes in and so does racism. Not every situation is like this, but if it has occurred more than it has not, it is a real issue that the American society is facing and does not want to own up to. That does go to show that the United States is making some kind of progress in making America a good place to be for all people, including people of color. If people are coming to America for the American Dream, it should not involve them constantly competing because of the color of their skin, but this is how America is right now. It is sad and disappointing that as a nation, we cannot accept people for who they are and look at somebody without casting judgment.
The United States cannot simply get rid of a box to check on the Census to try to get rid of racism and categorizing its citizens. There needs to be a rational and clear-cut, educated talk about racism and what to do about it, but since most people do not want to do this, society just ends up being quiet about this gigantic issue that we all know is here. Society is not color-blind, just simply being quiet about other people’s skin color and the attributes that make them up. If American will have a color-blind society, there needs to be no conscious judging of the next person who may not look the way someone thinks they should. Everyone needs to be treated fairly and it needs to be done wholeheartedly and sincerely. America has plenty of work to do if the nation wants
