mental illness and a temporary birth control cycle which is only mandatory if the mental illness
is not improved upon.
3) Defend your decision
So my three conclusive decisions for this case are abortion should not be conducted,
Mary Moe’s parents have no say in anything because they are not her, and finally sterilization
should be replaced with a temporary program which puts the patient in a birth control program
fully until the patient has the mental cognitive ability to making decisions. For the first decision
in this case, Mary Moe will not have abortion conducted because in her present state she is
mentally unstable therefore the child will be saved and put in a foster program until Mary is
mentally well and good. This decision comes down to life and death and if you had to make a
decision I choose life every time because once someone dies you cannot bring them back. For
the second decision Mary Moe’s parents should be completely isolated and not be involved at all.
I understand they are her guardians but the child at hand is not so therefore they have no say in
any decisions which involve the child and if this is not followed then a situation could occur
where the parents consent to Moe’s abortion and Moe gets well and blames her parents, that
is a huge ethical situation that has the potential to arise. Lastly on the topic sterilization I just
do not believe in a process that takes away the ability to reproduce, which is the most important
function a human being has. The solution to this is putting the individual in a temporary process
which does not take away their ability to reproduce but instead protects them from unwanted
consequences in a impaired state of mind. This is only temporary until the patient is mentally fit,
once they pass all tests and are competent then the birth control program will be void.
