The greedy nature of the business world often creates an overly competitive atmosphere that may be detrimental to a company or organizations future, alluding to a corrupt or unethical society and outlook. It is understandable that a company might want to utilize any advantages it may have in the market, for example, the best employees. But what defines the quality of an employee should be refocused. A candidate who has many party pictures in his or her profile, often has a negative connotation associated with irresponsibility and poor judgment. In turn, this candidate might simply have the best social skills and the best work ethic unless an image is directly defacing or poorly reflecting an organization i.e.- slander.
I do not believe an employer should outright not use the resources allotted to them, however, I do believe a different approach to these legal policies should be instilled. For instance, I believe that before the time of an interview (publicly available information), a documented policy should be made readily available to all potential and current employees identifying what might be inquired on and considered in regards to employment, and anyone doing the investigating must be from a 3rd party or not affiliated with the candidate or employer all together. Furthermore, I believe that precisely what disqualifying information is attained in these screenings should be documented and made available to the potential candidate in accordance with the EEOC. Lastly, if the disqualifying information acquired consist of any thing discriminating, such as
non-representative information or anything you cannot ask in a formal interview it should be ruled out of consideration for employment. I understand that we live in a global society and that everything we do is public, but as human beings we should be free from judgment and stereotype in the workplace.
