that if lying would save a life it is still wrong to lie because lying is wrong (Mosser, 2010). Also one would argue that rules have nothing to do with ethics or morals. For instance, someone can follow all rules, but yet be very mean and rude. Would that make that person morally right?
The second ethical system that I feel is great is virtue ethics. This ethical system is less worried about what rules a person should follow instead there theory is to emphasize on people learning good character skills. The virtue ethical system believes that character traits will allow a person to make the correct decisions later on in life (Mosser, 2010). I do feel that good character plays a major role in a person’s decisions in life. For example, I was raised to always consider peoples feels, respect my elders, be kind to others, and I truly feel that by me being raised that way has helped me as an adult when it comes to ethical decisions. When people around me are talking about how homeless people, and how they do not need money, that they had the same opportunities as anyone else, I am always the one trying to give as much as I can. In addition to that if all of my friends are being cruel to someone I will always refer to what my mom always said to me: “Treat others how you want to be treated”. With that being said, I do feel that good character makes a huge difference. On the other hand, one would argue that with the dilemmas in the world having good character is not enough. I would have to agree that the problem of the world requires some critical and careful thinking.
When it comes to ethics being natural or learned behavior I truly feel that it can be both. For example, a child that has extremely moral parents that always follow rules, have great character, and is overall wonderful people it is natural that the kid may come out like its parents. On the other hand I feel that if a child is in an environment where people act in an ethical way they will learn how to act like what they are taught.
