Finally, being in a class filled with different sexes, age groups, ethnicities, and cultures was very interesting. I enjoyed hearing their side to stories and poems and also their own personal stories. It made me think a lot about who people actually are. We really don’t know who anyone is, because some of the students had some very surprising stories to tell of their own personal experience to things. I know one student in the class was always joking around with everyone and was pretty much the class clown, but he admitted one day in class that he has been very depressed during his life right now and he has been down lately. This makes me wonder who else suffers from depression and if anyone knows about it. I learned to always treat people with the upmost respect during this course, because of this. I also learned things about another student, who is black. She said she used to live in a little wood house and had an outhouse as a bathroom. She said she remembered going out and picking cotton. Now, I couldn’t imagine doing those things when I was younger. Even though these experiences didn’t happen through the texts of the books, I still learned a lot about the students when they would relate their life to a story or poem we had read, which I thought was a really neat learning experience.

Overall this class was one that I looked forward to each week. I am happy that I took this class in my second semester and not closer to graduation, because learning about the different techniques I can use to break apart each narrative and also learning to speak my mind and not be shy, can all help me in my future classes. Learning the cultures of everyone else was also a very good learning experience. I am glad you let everyone open up to their own willing.
