In the past, people lives are defined by fixed roles that largely prevented people from choosing their own life. By contract, individuals in today’s society have fewer certainties or fixed roles to follow that’s why we have become detached from traditional roles and structures, leaving us with more freedom to choose how we lead our lives, for example, contraception that allowed sex and intimacy rather than reproduction to become the main reason for the relationship existence. Women have gained independence as a result of feminism and because of greater opportunities in education and work.
With that I conclude, that we now live in a risk society wherein people have more choice and as a result they are aware of risks. This is because making choices involves calculating the risks and rewards of different options open to us. That’s why it’s true that we should keep everything in moderation. As long as we do everything in moderation we don’t go overboard. There’s a perfect balance in life we just need to find it.
To wrap up things, I prefer modernism because in modernism they have control on what’s happening and everything is in moderate and truth exists. I can’t imagine that I will bear a wonderful child in this world full of chaos right now. With all the happenings in the present times, I can’t imagine that my child will witness all of these. That’s why even though pre-modernism exist, we should not forget that we are the one who has control on everything. We can do, whatever what we want to do. We can make it happen, we just need to take hold on everything and to re-think every decision in life that we are about to make.
