For me, the most important thing in life is the people that I love the most –my family, friends, and maybe someday my own partner in life. Success, money, fame is not everything in my world. They are fleeting and are fabricated ideas of happiness. I am not saying that they are evil and unimportant. It’s just that these are not the things that matters most in life. These things will not cheer you up, or hold you when you’re sad. They won’t definitely not remind you that you are loved. They won’t offer hugs, kisses, warmth, or companionship. Most especially, they won’t matter when you leave the world. As this quotation goes, “Your success is directly proportional to the number of lives you have touched for the better.” Above all these, the things that I consider the most important about myself are self-respect and self-love. After going through the tough times, I learned that it’s important to love yourself and respect yourself because if you can’t then who would? Your family may love you and your friends may adore you but no one can surmount the love and respect you can give yourself. When you get hurt and beaten down, it is you who will pick yourself up. It is you who can give yourself genuine happiness. The people around us are just guides but they don’t dictate your fate. No one can teach you these things because it is up to you to learn it and gain it. When people see the self-respect and love for yourself, they will also perceive you as someone respectable and lovable. Love yourself; embrace the good and bad because no one is ever perfect. We are all flawed but that is what makes us unique. That is what makes us human beings. This is what makes me a human being.
