change his mind after the death of Tybalt. First of all, he decided that Juliet needs to be married quickly. He says to Paris “Acquaint her here of my son Paris’ love; And bid her, mark you me, on Wednesday next- But, soft! What day is this? / Monday, my lord. / Well, Wednesday is too soon, O’ Thursday let it be, - o’ Thursday, tell her, she shall be married to this noble earl” (III. iv. 12-21). Then Capulet changed the date of the wedding to Wednesday giving Juliet even less time to prepare, and for Romeo to get the proper details of the “rescue”. This irrational behaviour is what led Juliet to take the potion and fake her death. If Capulet was to ask Juliet before talking to Paris, it would change the entire storyline. Paris would still be alive and the lovers would be alive.
Shakespeare uses the theme, or central message of “In life, as in love affairs, moderation is the best policy” to demonstrate the tragic flaws of Romeo and Juliet. The Friar informs Romeo and Juliet about the importance of the moderation, which they choose to ignore. Also Romeo lack of moderation gets him into a lot of trouble, including Juliet and his own deaths. Capulet rushed the wedding which caused a commotion which lead to the death of Romeo and Juliet. The reason for all the deaths in this play because of a lack of moderation, therefor moderation is the best policy.
