only be fined because he and I are married now and there is a chance that our marriage can end the family feud if he stays. A while ago, Romeo and I met and fell in love. Romeo asked Friar Lawrence to marry us and he agreed because he believed it would end the family feud. He says, “For this alliance may so happy prove To turn your households’ rancor to pure love” (Shakespeare II.iii.98-99). Friar Lawrence believes that our marriage can turn the hate between our families into love. The next day, at the church he said, “Come, come with me, and we will make short work, For, by your leaves, you shall not stay alone Till Holy Church incorporate two in one” (Shakespeare II.vi. 35-37). Friar Lawrence wanted to get us married quickly so that we could be united together in marriage, so that is what we did. If Romeo leaves I will be heartbroken, and I do not want to lose him. Also, if Friar Lawrence is correct, then when our families learn of our marriage, they will begin to love each other and there will be no more fighting. If you banish Romeo, there will be problems and chaos between the families, but by keeping him here, all of that could end. Therefore, Romeo should be fined because he caused so much trouble, but should be forgiven for killing Tybalt because he is my husband and maybe our families will be able to unite as one.

In conclusion, I am writing you this letter to ask you to forgive Romeo for his dreadful deed and make him pay a fine for the troubles he caused. You would have had to kill Tybalt anyways for killing Mercutio. Plus, Mercutio was your family and the person who killed him is done now, thanks to Romeo. Maybe by letting Romeo stay there will be an end to this family feud because our families will unite due to this marriage. Romeo made your job easier by following the law says, brought justice for the death of someone related to you, and he is my husband now, which makes our families united. Prince, please forgive Romeo for what he has done and let him off with a fine and a warning!

Sincerely,

Juliet Capulet
