Personally, art is the single thing that influences my memories. It is the one tie to the emotional state I was in at the time and place I lived. Each region I lived had a very different culture and art style. On the East coast the color scheme was very drab and the architecture was very traditional. In the West, I saw the unique abstract aspect of art, with its interesting buildings and intellectual design concept. In the southwest, one of my favorite regions, there was a strong Native American influence. It incorporated adobe style architecture with a pop of turquoise. In each of these regions I can recall the emotions and memories developed in that region. For me, an avid nomad, always moving art and architecture was the one thing that I can recall my emotions with. For this, art is the tie to emotional aspects of my life.
Emotional ties in art are prominent in all connections of art. Whether this art be music, poetry, or the more traditional fine art; a connection to emotion is always present. As Canaday, Tack, and Wordworth express, the art is meant to connect to the audience. It is not merely beautiful to the mind, but rather the soul. It is able to connect all levels of life. It is one thing that can push aside all biases and prejudice and can unify the human race to determine what is, in fact, art. Due to the idea of art identifying with the audiences emotion, it can be considered much more than just a visual pleasure. It is a pathway to the human mind and personal thoughts and feeling. Art can be the one thing that both saves a life and ruins one at the same time. Ultimately, art is always tied to emotion and will be the one thing to identify cultures for times to come. It will not identify only the time period but rather the thoughts and souls of those living at that time, which is a far more valuable piece of knowledge.
