The most important thing that I’ve learned from this subject is the importance of agriculture in our daily lives. Almost everything about us and everything we use top survive this life is a product of agriculture. May it be from the food we eat, to the things we wear and to the shelter we live in. Almost all of them came from agriculture. We can barely survive. Since we are an agricultural country, its importance is, it gives jobs to almost all our people and it becomes their main source of income. I can conclude from here that agriculture somehow makes alive. This is how important agriculture is.

Way back then, agriculture was nothing for me. I know it exists but I don’t care about its existence at all. But now, I’m overwhelmed by the importance of agriculture in a man’s life. Now, I can’t imagine life without agriculture. Without agriculture, there may be a lot of resources for us to live, but we will not be able to use them efficiently. We somehow owe our existence to agriculture. I now consider having a rich agriculture as one of my reasons why I’m thankful that I’m living here in the Philippines. Agriculture is really one the greatest things we, all Filipinos, should be thankful for.

Since I’ve realized how significant agriculture is, I think that other people especially the youth like me, and specifically students like me who longs to serve the nation should do something or suggest something to promote agriculture among the people. Agriculture should be more known and appreciated that it is today. All people should give importance to agricultural similar to the passion given by the people who devote their lives improving agriculture not just for themselves but also for the good of their people.

There are several ways that can be done to help promote agriculture. To start with the most common and easiest way –promote agriculture through campaigns and advocacies. We, the youth, should be involved in campaigns and advocacies. Campaigns demanding the government to give more attention to agriculture and let’s be practical, give more budget to the Department of Agriculture. I think we should invest more on agriculture because it’s what we have in our country. We should nourish the resources we have in order for us to progress. Agriculture is what we are. We should stop trying to be like the other countries. We should not convert our fields into real estate just to invite investors in our land. We should stick to what we have because I believe that these resources were given to us because God knows that we will be able to be good stewards of these blessings given to our country. We should also launch advocacies that will encourage others to engage in agriculture.

Another way of promoting agriculture is to involve a subject in agriculture in high school curriculum or give emphasis on agriculture in TLE subjects. Not only should the products be discussed but also the methods and ways on how to practice agriculture. It should also be done or practiced by the students. They should experience themselves agriculture. In experiencing how to do things concerning agriculture, they would be able and somehow appreciate those people behind agriculture for the reason that, they will experience the same effort and hard work and they will know the feeling on working with these stuffs. Therefore, when they realize the hard work associated with agriculture they will tend to appreciate agriculture more and agriculture will mean more to them than before.

Another way of promoting agriculture is to garnish the products of agriculture. We must think of creative and innovative ways of presenting and packing products from agriculture. We should make the products more appealing to the customers. Food colorings and additives may be added but not putting the quality of nutrients on the products into risk. In this way, the consumers will most likely consume the products and they themselves would recommend the products to the people they know. This will also, for me, elevate the perception of people towards agriculture.

Fruits and vegetables with high level of micronutrients should also be provided. Products should contain micronutrients that may treat deficiencies on a person or a child. The products may serve as an alternative for medicine. Since these products are cheaper than medicine and are, at some cases, readily available, the consumers will choose to use these products rather than medicines. In this way agriculture will promoted because of the higher demand.

The Department of Agriculture should also upgrade our ways of doing agriculture. I’m not saying that we should leave our customs and traditions when it comes to agricultural but what I’m saying is that we should apply latest technologies to agriculture. Undoubtedly, this would help us gain more products and the customers, especially those from other countries will trust more our products because they know that we have used the latest technology. It is an instinct of a person nowadays that when something is done or used with the latest technology it will produce the best product.

Another way is that agriculture should be promoted in the most prominent media today. Television and the World Wide Web are the leading media in our generation. They should launch advertisements about agriculture. This will make agriculture more exposed especially to the youth because as we all know, youth like us tend to spend our time infront of the television and infront our laptops. Famous actors and actresses should be the ones promoting agriculture because they have a big influence and impact on the youth and for the rest of the people as well. We Filipinos are fond of idolizing. Whatever our idols patronize, we would also do no matter what it is and to what extent.

Degree programs on agriculture should also be available in other universities and colleges. Only few universities have it. Vocational courses on agriculture should also be provided so that the less fortunate people would be able to be master on agriculture. In this way we will be able to improve the quality of agriculture and its product provided with the right and appropriate education and practice. Also, greater inventions could be done by the aspiring farmers that have great ideas only waiting for the right avenues on where they can start. And they can start by having the right education in an attainable cost and with shorter spa of time.

People engaged in agriculture should also launch fund raising activities. Like marathons and concerts. These activities would aim to collect funds that will be used to improve agriculture. Since marathons and concerts for a cause are now trending, a lot of people will be encouraged to join. Influential people might also join these stuffs because
