The effects and consequences of political correctness on our country are far reaching and largely entrenched in our ethics and moral structure. At first glance there are few objections to political correctness. After all what could possibly be wrong with something that tries to make everyone happy at the same time. The problem with political correctness is that not everyone can be happy about the same things. There will always be some dissent from some group of people on any given subject. So the only solution to this problem according to political correctness is for people to sensor themselves of any unique and distinguishing thoughts or ideas, because those ideas are bound to offend someone on some level. The result of this can be seen in our government, our children, and our society as a whole. Our government is slowly slipping into a Marxist mindset, they are becoming dictators as can be seen by legislator like the Patriot Act. Our children are learning in school that being “PC” is more important than achieving their goals of being the next great inventor, an astronaut, or physicist. In essence our society is on a long degrading path which will ultimately result in us becoming what we fought so hard to prevent. We are no longer the smartest nation, the most innovative nation, or the most moral nation. This as I see it is a test for Americans to see if we can fight off the downfall of our nation through rejection of a principle that at first 10016 good, but when it is dissected there is only evil at its heart.

As a whole the institution of political correctness has proven its qualities and they are few. The only group of people that I can see having a use for political correctness is the extremely ignorant. Common sense encompasses every bit of information you need, to find out what is not ok to say, think, or do. Blazquez believes very strongly in the eradication of political correctness, and while Poniewozik still has some shortcomings about getting rid of it he also believes that common sense is all a reasonably intelligent person needs. With all the negative results of this laid out it is hard to believe that no one has made a stand against this travesty. I only hope that political correctness is not too far embedded in our society to be removed. That would be a true loss.
