As I mentioned earlier, there are plenty of different sectors that will play a huge role in the growth of the Philippine economy. These include education, the workforce, healthcare, infrastructure and many more. I understand that there have been significant improvements in these areas as well. However, I am not entirely sure how we are able to quantify the effects of these sectors with respect to our economy, as these could range from insignificant to game changing for businesses. The only thing that is certain is that it will be very interesting to see what will happen in the next couple of years.
My main concern is that despite this being his last SONA, our president is still evidently focused on complaining about the previous administration and their governance. I understand that it takes time for his plans to actually bear fruit especially given how deeply rooted the corruption in this country is. In terms of the Philippine economic growth, a Harvard student once told me that at the end of the day, business is business, people will invest only if they feel the rewards outweigh the risks. They aren’t thinking about your problems. They are thinking about theirs if they do decide to move forward. Therefore, what we should be asking ourselves is what changes can we make as a nation? Whether political, regulatory or cultural, so we may continue to attract and encourage investors who will help us further increase the growth of our economy.
