What is risk if there is no reward? As a leader, it is good to acknowledge success no matter how great or small. The team should be rewarded as a whole and individually in areas of compensation, benefits, recognition, and appreciation that are aligned with organization’s strategies. A winning system should focus on both performance and behavior. Performance is the easiest to address because they are a direct link to results from goals initially set for the team members. For example, leaders could implement an incentive plan or recognize top performers for achieving periodic goals. Behavior rewards are a reflection of what is important to the team. These activities might include fine-tuning critical processes, enhancing customer relationships, or even team members helping each other expand their managerial skills. (6). Monetary incentives is just a part of the whole, members also need appreciation and recognition. People need to be acknowledged in front of “…their peers for specific accomplishments achieved, actions taken or attitudes exemplified through their behavior (6).” And sometimes all it takes is a little gratitude through a personal note or verbal gesture of thanks.
Any individuals can come together to form a group to do a job, but a team focuses beyond that as contributors to their overall success. By following this plan, leaders can ensure that each style of conflicts and its consequences are taken into account to normalize behaviors in any situations. Becoming an effective team is a slow and arduous process, but through trust in the direction of a shared vision while resolving conflicts and strategic reward system a team can develop the synergy it needs to move their group into a whole new level of productivity and cooperation.
