When I was in my semester break, I had worked as Cashier at 7Eleven.

Unfortunately, my leader was a bad – tempered. He quite asked me to work at a

longer time and do something that not under my scope as Cashier. He also pay

my salary too late.

Conclusion

- If you were the scriptwriter, how would you change this movie? And why?

I would change this movie by change the role of Miranda. She supposed to be kind employer towards her employee. Because this could reduce the bad rumors around the workplace and create better engagement between her employees. As editor, to create good networking with others, she must show good attitudes too.

- Why do you think the functions of recruitment and selection are important?

It is important to list the skills new hire will need to fulfill his duties. If we fail to do this, we might end up with a low quality pool of candidates and wind up with limited choices to fill the open position. When we choose a candidate based upon the qualifications demonstrated in the resume, employment history and background check, we will land the best fit for the position.

- What lessons have you learned from watching and thinking about this movie from a critical perspective? Has this critical reflection inspired you to be a competent HR practitioner in your own life later?

1. Don’t expect to be praised all the time. A great scene in the film is when Nigel says to a crying Andy, who hasn’t received any praise or recognition from Miranda, “Why do you expect that people should cry for you?” At this point, Andy is very much acting like she’s above this job and showing no passion for it, despite her hard work. People will recognize passion and earnestness, but they will also see when you’re just going through the motions.

2. Find a mentor. Andy is quite lost in the beginning at work and quickly seeks guidance from Nigel. Though he gives her some tough love, he ends up being the best mentor she could ever ask for.
