From the justice perspective, Unocal did not distribute benefits and burdens fairly among people. Their program help the middle class grown wealthier but not the poor. They had to refocus on helping the poor first. And They still had not compensated the people who forced to relocate or over worked. Majority of the profits they created was taken by the Burma government. The government did not invest the profits into their country but put them all offshore for personal use.

From the caring perspective, Unocal was not caring for the people they forced labor or relocate. All they care for was the benefits of the project and their goal of expansion. They turned their backs on those people and milk the profits from them. They should had helped those people and their community. It will benefit both side Unocal and the Karen. It will result in less protest when you care for them.

In conclusion, Unocal decision to invest in the pipeline project was a right choice. However, they made too many mistakes along the line by forcing people out of their own home and slavery. Unocal claimed that they helped make Burma better is false. The only people who benefit from the pipeline project were Unocal, Total S.A and the Burma government. Unocal could have done so much better by compensate the Karen people for their home and lands, pay the worker and create a good working conditions. If they do all this from the beginning, I do not think they will need the military security.
