Growing up Online is a perfect example of how the lives of many teenagers are on the internet. For teenagers the can help them on assignments, assist them on making new friends or even getting them to commit suicide. Sexual predators online are frequently searching for teenagers to abused them, some kids are smart enough to block them and report the incident to their parents but others fall right in the trap. Online bullying is a common theme among teenagers for some the bullying doesn’t stay at school it continues in their homes through the internet. It’s important that parents and kids talk about what problems they encounter at school because some kids have committed as cause of cyber bullying. Social networks are a place some group of students start fights that are then carried to school. One example of online identity management is my sister. When she started using Facebook she would accept friend request from everybody and she would post pictures just to see how many likes she can get. My mother noticed that my sister spend most of the time on the computer and she started to search for her on Facebook. When my mother find out what my sister was doing she created a Facebook account to follow her and obligate her to delete all the strange people that she was friends with.
In conclusion social networks are a channel to develop new friendships and create an environment of people that have the same qualities as you. The strategies that are being use on social sites to persuade people have been created to fill our need of an identity. In many online communities there always users that try to become to center of attention, either by having more friends or more likes. We are responsible for managing our online identity we choose the friends that represent who we are.
