In the case of the cook who couldn’t, a women with prefrontal cortex damage was an astoundingly accomplished cook and yet after her injury she became incapable of cooking even the simplest of meals. She could remember the recipes and how to perform all of the required cooking techniques, but she could not complete the tasks within a recipe in the proper sequence (Pinel, 2009).
Another sound and even more substantial piece of evidence is the monkey model of object recognition amnesia test. In this test, a monkey is presented with a distinctive object, like a blue oval, and underneath this object there is a reward, like a banana. In the secondary portion of the test, two objects are presented, the previous blue oval and a new object like, a red triangle. The wanted outcome is for the monkey to recognize or remember the blue oval so that it can select the new object and obtain the food beneath it (Pinel, 2009). This test displays both memory and learning in the sense that the monkey must remember the initial object and will therefore learn to go after the new object.
The Importance of Life Learning and Brain Stimulation
For those who are part to the longevity age, lifelong learning and brain stimulation is the key to keep healthy, happy, and have quality of life. There are many kinds of mental exercises with intellectual stimulations which include creative activities like appropriate exercises programs, work programs, volunteers programs, which also will include social involvements. Hospitals in the United States motivate individuals to volunteer working at the hospital like guess attention to help them to keep active and help them also with their self-esteem. This king of the programs includes important elements with a combination of mental stimulation, social engaging, the liberty to choose the living type. The individuals have to make their own decisions choosing and engaging with the beneficial brain activities (Elderhostel, Inc., 2007).
The different activities which help the longevity to keep a quality of life, brain stimulation helps them to be involved with the community, and socialized which will bring different life experiences. Some individuals will choose to go back to study which will help to keep the brain stimulated. There are many kinds of professionals, like doctors and lawyers, who will choose to keep studying at the age of 70, and this will help them to keep stimulated in life. In many circumstances, this will help with the auto esteem and maybe with some kind of mental disorders like depression. Also, if an individual loss a relative and is having a hard time in life, brain stimulations through any kind of intellectual or social stimulation will help to avoid falling into a deep sadness or even farther in a mental disorder or bad healthy conditions (Elderhostel, Inc., 2007).
The stimulation for the brain develops different expressions and develops a quality of life which will lead in engaging in learning, exercise and physical activities. It is positive for the communities to have programs available for longevity age individuals because it is much wealthier and politically oriented in the community. Lifelong learning helps to promote and achieve goals in life. It is essential to engage in positive activities which will bring opportunities to keep the brain stimulated through learning. Also, studies have shown that with lifelong learning individual live more, success in life, and live well (Elderhostel, Inc., 2007).
Conclusion
A person must learn before memories can be formed, and the brain must continue to be stimulated in order to retain information to form memories. With learning, many parts of the brain come together to stimulate and create chemical reactions in order to relay messages between nerve cells. Information can be captured as short term memories, and evolve into long term memories to be stored. Many research experiments have been done with memory that involved both humans and animals. It is important to continue using the brain by participating in brain exercises, socializing, and performing creative activities. This helps to keep the brain stimulated and working throughout our lives.
