Another case proving that addiction is another type of disorder that can affect thinking, because it affects their attitude and all reasonable logic. The Robinson versus California case was ruled that a certain state cannot make a person’s status as an addict a crime; only behaviors (mental illness and Supreme Court 1).

Solving this issue of mental illnesses becoming known as a disability is not that simple. There are many suggestions to solving awareness for mental disabilities such as becoming more familiar with these disabilities. Having an open mind to consider mental illness as a disability is a great start also. Knowledge of the disabilities and side effects can solve several problems such as understanding they are not physical, and they affect how people act. Another way to help is to contact a support group to help identify what the problem is and how help can be implemented.

People do not consider mental illnesses to be a disability because symptoms are not physically shown, victims act normal one minute and not the other, and people do not understand what they are and how they affect sufferers. Disabilities whether it is mental or not, come with a label. As said earlier some of the most overlooked mental illnesses are addiction etc. Besides recognizing the diseases, there is no other way to solve it besides changing people’s minds on the topic.
