Rolling Wind clocked Buck on the side of the head. Buck then went flying down a steep hill. Rolling Wind followed. Both of them landed on a frozen river, which was starting to melt. Buck slid, and Rolling Wind crept on, trying not to break the ice. Buck quickly got up and charged at him going for his throat.

Rolling fell back trying to avoid Buck when the ice broke and he fell in, but luckily Buck ran to shore. For a few seconds Buck watched Rolling Stone sink deeper and deeper. Soon after he saw him as John Thornton, and immediately could not resist saving him. Buck jumped in and pulled him out of the water. Rolling Wind and Buck were so cold. They laid upon the bay, when a miracle happened, a gold prospector found them and brought both to his cabin.

The next day, Buck woke up, laid in front of a warm and comfy fire. For a second he thought he was back in the Southland at Judge Miller’s place, but soon realized he was still in the Klondike. Right then and there, a man with a huge gut, wearing filthy clothes, laid some water and meat in front of Buck. Buck looked beside him and saw the Yeehat sitting with new clothes and a blanket around him.

“ Thank you,” said Rolling Wind to Buck. He had also forgiven the wolf dog, that moment for killing his father and knew it was for revenge of his old master. Buck got up and started walking around. He went outside and saw two children playing in the snow, a woman hanging up freshly washed clothes, and the man, who fed him water and meat, was chopping wood. Rolling Wind then came and stood beside Buck. Buck again was reminded of Judge Miller’s place. He soon was torn away from the call of the wild; he ran up to the man chopping would and showed great affection. The little boy and girl soon ran over and said, “ Papa! Can we keep him, I love him so much.” then they both hugged Buck.

The man looked at Rolling Wind and asked, “ May we keep this dog?” Rolling Wind responded in a very short answer, from his bad English saying, “ Yes,” and put his hand on his heart as he nodded.

Later rolling Wind went back to his village, the Chief then came out of his tent and asked,” Is the wolf dog dead?”

“Yes! The wolf dog is no more, but I did not slay him, the wolf dog slayed himself,” Rolling Wind announced loud and clear for all of the village to hear. Many did not understand what this meant, they questioned, how could the great beast slay himself? Rolling Wind would not answer them though, and kept it secret from many of what happened to the voracious wolf dog. Only him and Buck would ever know how the ties to the call of the wild, had been broken.
