2011 can be considered as the turning point for Bangladesh cricket, as the youngsters of 2007 turned to seasoned veterans. The team lead by Tamim,Shakib,Mushfiq and Mashrafe started showing signs of diligence and unity. Good results followed. They whitewashed New Zealand in ODIs and followed it with a good showing in the 2011 World Cup which Bangladesh Co-hosted.2013 was again a year of disappointment as Bangladesh lost almost all of their matches and even against associate nations.
They say with the bad comes the good. So with all those losses in 2013 came the appointment of Chandika Hathurusingha. His tactical changes turned Bangladesh from a squad of talented individuals to a talented squad consisting of individuals. Bangladesh won convincingly against full strength India, Pakistan and South Africa in their respective bilateral series. They also for the first time qualified for the quarter finals of a World Cup by defeating England. The good form has continued ever since.
So it seems Bangladesh has finally entered the upper echelon of Cricket. To the world it may come off as a surprise but to us it was just a matter of time.
Why?
A country of 150 million people; divided by religion, social class and ethnicity; But when our countrymen wear the red and green and lays it all out on the cricket field, we forget about the differences in our life and embrace the beautiful game. So all the other nations may have better resources and talent but what we have is something that cannot be bought or taught. What we have is the love of 150 million people!
