If there is no Cultural Revolution...
The Cultural Revolution was a huge turning point in Chinese culture. This revolution was started in 1977 by Mao Zedong, who was afraid to lose power in the party, so he had his radical left supporters started this revolution to check the power of more moderate wing of the ruling Chinese Communist Party. Mao and his associates organized students into paramilitary bands called Red Guards aiming to overturning the society by attacking symbols of authority, such as teachers, books, religious beliefs, and traditional customs. Schools were closed. Young students went everywhere to find authorities to “beat”. The Cultural Revolution destroyed China’s economy, as people stopped to fight against the authorities. It also almost ruined China’s academic environment, as those scientists were all criticized to connect with devil west capitalism. Their disappearance directly resulted to China’s backward technology. This disaster lasted 10 years, and China stopped 10 years.
If Cultural Revolution had not happened, China’s technology would be more advanced and China’s economy would thrive. The short term effect of the events would be that the survival of millions of people, who might be scientists, middle class, government officials or artists. If not dead, these people can continue to do what they did before. The long term effect would be the contributions of those survived people. China’s culture would stay in people’s mind, and would not be destroyed on purpose. So there would not be a cultural invasion in large scale. And also the academe would still contribute to this country, so China’s technology would be more advanced and be the tops in the world.
