Secondly, online courses have a problem of cheating from lack of supervision. This is quite a problem because the anyone sit in front of the screen can be taking the course. The instructor is not able to figure out who is taking the class and who is doing the quizzes and exams. Students may taking an online courses with some friends, and then one of them is doing all the exams. It sounds unmeaning and unnecessary, but it’s possible. If it’s a class on campus, the instructor will be able to know the students by their names, and make sure they are doing their exams but not working together or just one of them doing all the work. The purpose of this is not to make students unhappy, but make sure they are learning something in the class.
After all, both online learning and learning on campus have some benefits compared with each other. The internet is making learning easier for the students. They can give the students more time for themselves and more freedom to do their jobs or something else. Taking online classes can also save the students some money on transportation. Online classes can make everyone participate in the class, rather than some quite students never speak in the classroom. However, students taking the online courses can hardly develop personal relationships with the instructors or the classmates. They will not be learning the social skills which they can learn in the classroom. And also, they might be cheating because of lacking of supervision. In my opinion, it is a good idea that there should be some classes mixed by campus activities and online assignments. Those classes will be more flexible and taking the advantages of both sides. The students can save some time and money by not going to school, and also learn the social and know the classmates and professor by doing some assignments on campus. If it cannot be a mixed class, then I think an online class is still better than a class on campus. It is easier for the students to learn at any place at any time. Social skills learning cannot be guaranteed even if it is a class on campus. If a student wants to cheat, sitting in the classroom cannot forbid that. The students are paying to be in the class to learn something. They should know that cheating is doing only harm to themselves and wasting their money and time.
