With all the buzz about this military ban, has anyone asked these former and active duty members how they feel? In an interview, talk show host, Kelly McEvers, speaks to ex-U.S. Air Force Airman, Jordan Blisk, about the transgender military ban. Jordan Blisk served from 2011 to 2015, and he is also a trans man, which means he was assigned female at birth. Blisk claims the military gave him a way outside of the world he knew, which was being raised in the midwest. The U.S. military is the largest employer of transgender people in the entire world, but with this ban in place it would leave thousands of people unemployed. Blisk talks about how devastating this will be for current members serving. This could be catastrophic to these members who have families to support and are suddenly without an income.

Though many people have strong views about this military ban, nothing they do will stop what has already been done. Every controversial thing the president does will end in some kind of backlash. But, this one has had many side effects. For one, celebrities had an outpour of support for these people in this situation. They chose to have a voice in this crazy time. Their voices have not only reached world wide but they have also helped transgender people feel as if somebody was on their side. These celebrities have made it absolutely clear that this type of discrimination is not okay. As for the “tremendous” medical costs, we have clearly found out that it is just a blatant lie. We have found out that our United States military spends its money in many other ways besides caring for our transgender troops. President Trump spends nearly 20 times more money on men with erectile dysfunction but refuses to accommodate to the transgender community. Another point of view to consider is the fact that Trump has not experienced serving in the military. He managed to dodge the draft with his diagnosis of bone spurs on his feet, which in recent days he has spoken about how they were not as severe as said to be. This leads people who have served to believe that he may possibly have a different outlook if he had served in Vietnam. As said previously, the U.S. military is the largest employer of transgender people in the world. Currently Americans do not know just how heavily this will impact transgender people and their families. Overall, the ban that Trump has imposed on transgender military personnel is something that could very well be turned around again in the next several years. Americans just need to have hope in the fact that President Trump will possibly see the several opposing views of what exactly he is trying to do.
