Character to Character
-Chiffon and Crystal- are her best friends. Not matter what she does, she wants them to be a part of what she has. They are like the family she wish she had.
-Seymour- Secretly, Ronette has a crush on Seymour. He is what she wants: kind, quiet and safe (in personality). She puts her feelings for him aside for the sake of the plant’s mission. She likes him, but she knows he wants Audrey, so using jealousy as a motivator, she pushes him toward the plant. She will find more like him, the plant promised.
Mushik- Before her mother dies, Ronette is told that Mushnik is her father. Mushnik didn’t want her so she harbors a disdain toward him. Giving him to the plant is no problem. If he gave her away, she’ll give him away.
Audrey- She is fond of Audrey because she grew up in the same neighborhood. As previously mentioned. Ronette has a slight crush on Seymour so when Audrey is reluctant to take him, she calls her crazy because she knows how great of catch Seymour is.
Audrey Two- She found the plant Uptown, bought him to Skidrow and is helping it accomplish his goal of world domination because he promised her love and money
Ronette Jones is confident in herself and in what she wants. She will do whatever it takes to get what she wants. She is a booji girl who is living the life opposite of what she wants. She’s a girls with “champagne tastes, beer pockets.” She is definitely respected by the other Urchins.
Character’s Opinion:
a. God- There is one, but now Audrey Two is the beacon of everything she wants.
b. Sex- Sex is sex. Doesn’t mean much. Uptown is where the bosses take your money and they break your hearts.
c. Politics- She is in the time Einsenhower and racial tensions. Her attitude on her way of life is indignant. She feels that is “the man’s ” fault she and her friends have no money
d. Education- She only went to school up to the fifth grade. School in unnecessary.
e. Fashion- She aspires to be like Dorothy Danderidge, where the dresses and have her hair styles. She is influenced by Danderidge’s portrayal of Carmen.
g. Money- It has been absent for the greater part of her life, so she doesn’t really care about it. The plant has shown her that money is not important because the greed other humans have for it. She sees how weak people are when they want money and doesn’t want it as badly anymore.
h. Philosphy of life- Survival of the fittest.
i. Current social issues- The racial tensions make it hard for her to get a job. She’s annoyed by how everything is and wants better for her and her friends.
Physical Appearance:
Ronette cannot afford fancy clothing but she does have decent clothes from the thrift store. Because she works uptown, she doesn’t have presentable shirts and skirts, but nothing fashionable and really trendy. Her clothes aren’t sloppy and she keeps her clothing nice and pressed. She would rather take the time to iron out wrinkles rather than walk outside looking unkempt. Ronette walks confidently and is sassy. She walks and like Carmen Jones, sexy and with purpose. She wears her hair similarly to Dorothy Dandridge, shoulder-length and curly and she styles her makeup to resemble the actress. If Ronette were an animal she’d be a cat. She is independent and fiesty.
