As it pertains to compensation in the construction company there was on set pay no bonus and this was very discouraging as persons left the company regularly while in the retail industry there is bonus for the simplest of things meeting targets, excellent customer service etc. which encouraged workers to do their utmost best. There was no health benefit nor pension plan in the construction company while in the retail industry all that information is outlined clearly in your contract.
Evaluating performance is of paramount importance as it aids in encouraging employees to perform at their maximum potential and this is done at the retail industry however this was never done in the construction company. A special team in HR designs these models in order to keep abreast of employees who are meeting their Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and this is important as this assist to determine if a position is relevant in an organization.
In the construction company the only point of communication to resolve an issue was the CEO and at times he wasn’t approachable as he was over worked and burden with all the other aspects of the business. While in the retail industry the company has various means of resolving an issue the first point of contact would be ones direct manager/ department employee engagement champion if the issue is not solved the issue is then elevated to one’s regional manager if the regional doesn’t solve the issue its then refer to the HR Manager if the HR manager doesn’t resolve the issue its then elevated to the HR director if the director doesn’t resolve the issue it is then elevated to the Managing director. This allows employee to have their issues solved without discarding any complaint as being irrelevant.
Given all of these specifications and contrast between the two organizations that I have worked with within the past five years it is indeed evident that Human Resource Management is extremely important for an organizations long term sustainability, growth and success. The construction company is now closed and I do believe if an HR department was present and functioning how it oath to that could have been prevent. On the other hand in the retail industry that I currently operate in the human resources are managed effectively and efficiently as surveys are done to check if they are performing their duties in accordance to their job description. The HR department plays a strategic role in the company as they bridge the gap between the company and its employees ensuring the employees are happy while ensuring the company’s work is being done (maximizing the potential of each staff member).
