Another reason for my resistance against illegal immigration is that the immigrants experience many unspeakable horrific situations and extortion on route to the land of dreams. It is brain boggling to me why people would send themselves or their children off to a foreign country risking that their lives for something that is not for sure. They are forced to ride atop an infamous train through Mexico known as “La Bestia” I mean the name says it all. When and if they get to the border they must then try to cross the river, which is very unforgiving. They are also forced to walk miles and miles without food and water under extreme weather conditions, which causes the death of many along the way. Many women and children face rape and abuse during this long and torturous journey. Some are even held for ransom. In the article “Unaccompanied minors risk life for American dream” it states that a 14-year-old boy’s family was forced to pay $2,000 dollars for his release. He then had nowhere to go. That is the case with many; they are being held for ransom and extorted. It infuriates me that they feel they have to go through this and that there is no other way.
The last reason for my position is because it costs us the American tax payers billions of dollars to accommodate the illegal immigrants. According to article “The cost of Illegals is enormous” written by Mark Grabowski he states that American for legal Immigration PAC estimates that illegal immigrants are stealing more than $125 billion worth of American Taxpayer resources each year. That number is outrageous to me. Why should I be forced to pay for their education, healthcare and government assistance needs? We as Americans suffer day to day to make ends meet and at the end, some of us barely have enough money to put food on the table. We pay so many taxes for our community resources and schools and they come in and have use of it all just like that. It is really frustrated to me when I go to the grocery store to buy just the bare necessities because I don’t have enough money for more. While the illegal immigrant next to me with no legal rights to be here gets to use food stamps to pay for two carts filled to the top with expensive meats and stuff that they really don’t need. If you really think about it, I am the one paying for those groceries. I think that this is completely unfair. Why are they being rewarded for coming in to this country illegally? We are citizens of the United States and yet we are denied benefits. The immigrants come and take all of our resources and end up living even better than us. How nice!
The immigration surge topic is viewed by many in different ways. Some people are for illegal immigrants and some are against it. I can see why these immigrants come to the United States looking for a better life. They live in poverty and are being forced in to a life of violence. However, does the risk of coming to America really outweigh the benefits? Mothers are no longer crying because their children are being forced to join gangs and violence. They cry because their children did not make the long torturous journey in search of a better life. It should not be us the American taxpayers responsibility to accommodate them after entering this country illegally. In order to come to the United States and live the American dream, immigrants should go through the process legally and avoid risking their lives and life savings.
