audience laughed. Ronald Chump, charismatic as ever, was obviously confident. The challenger would be taken down soon. The challenger, seemingly unfazed, took a drink of water and spoke.

“What I suggest is that we don’t kick every single illegal immigrant out. That would be going back to the drawing board, and would set our development back. What I’m saying is that we should start changing the laws right now. One of the reasons illegal immigrants enter countries is because they can find jobs. And they can find jobs because employers hire them. Employers generally tend hire cheaper work hands. (North) So I’m saying, we should make it mandatory for all companies to use E-Verify, which is a system that can be used to check a person’s legal status. It compares information about an immigrant to US Governmental records to confirm or deny a person’s employment eligibility. (What is E-Verify?) It’s accurate, and is already being used in various different locations of America. It’s handled over 30 million cases as of this day. (Performance) This allows employers to verify workers’ legal statuses, and for the Government to punish employers who hire illegal immigrants knowingly.”

Chump was angry. This imbecile was trying to crush his campaign. The campaign that he had paid so much for, and was close to winning. His anger made him sharper, keener. He had found a problem with the opponent’s argument, and he was going to use it. He interrupted his opponent’s words.

“Nice try, but that solution will never work. Sure, it’s a great plan. If you don’t look at the glaring mistake that would be. Your solution of only allowing legal immigrants to work is exactly the same as mine. Illegal immigrants will still be kicked out, and there’ll be, and I quote, a “huge gap in our economy”. There is literally no difference between my plan and yours.”

“No, no, no, no. There’s a second part to my plan, which you would have heard if you’d only kept your mouth shut, Mr. Chump. So basically, what we need to do is bring in a bunch of legal immigrants to take care of our work. You want those immigrants to be new people. But what I’m saying is, why don’t we use the old illegal immigrants, and legalize them? They’re already good at the jobs they do, so no training required, and those immigrants are the ones that will return to our country as soon as they get kicked out.”

Chump decided to show that he was knowledgeable in this area. He had found out about a plan that was strikingly similar to this second plan.

“There’s already a plan like that, and you’d know if you’d done some research. It’s called DACA, or the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. It’s supposed to postpone the deportment of illegal immigrants who are young adults or youth, and temporarily provide Social Security numbers and work permits.(Gonzales) “

The speaker interrupted, waving his hand as if dismissing a thought.

“Yes, I know, but what I’m saying is that we should make a new law, that will widen the range of the law. The applicable people should be extended to all illegal immigrants. Look at DACA. In its first two years, over 500 thousand young adults were legalized. (Two Years and Counting: Assessing the Growing Power of DACA) Think of how it would affect society if adults could request it as well. it would reduce the odds of an immigrant turning to shady, illegal jobs. It would also lead to an increase in illegal immigrants’ socio-economic well-being, while not directly legalizing them. (Two Years and Counting: Assessing the Growing Power of DACA) And because it’s reviewed by a government employee, there is a decreased chance of immigrants getting past this. Finally, it’s temporary but renewable. (Gonzales) This allows us to keep the immigrants that are good, honest, and get rid of the drug dealers and rapists you kept talking about.”

The audience was surprised by the revelations the speaker had given them. Seeing Ronald Chump, their hero, speechless was also shocking. The speaker’s words had a certain ring of truth to them, like he believed in what he was saying, and believed them with a passion. What he had said was undeniably correct. They couldn’t decide who to believe.
