eye, in order to sell their product. There would be nothing wrong with those pictures unless we didn’t find out that the women that were pictured were 10 year old girls that were edited to perfection (Melker). When this became a known fact, girls of that age stared at the photo thinking that was actually how they should look like. Throughout many years, young girls have been given this unrealistic idea of perfection and they have been trying to only live up to it by putting education second. No wonder why young girls have low self-esteem. The commercials and advertisements that we put in front of them only give them unrealistic expectations that not even the models that are pictured can achieve without the help of photoshop. This not only outsets young girls to have lower self esteem but also makes them treat the advertisements as a role model, someone to look up to. Therefore, young girls will be socially confused on how they should look, dress, and act in front of everybody in order to not get judged. Usually when that happens, girls become antisocial and depressed, because they don’t match the higher class females in society.
Women should spend more time discovering “their true power” and potential “so they can become leaders” (SpringfieldSpringfield.co.uk). Girls shouldn’t worry about their weight, beauty or any other sort of complexions, but instead, they should worry about their intellectuality. Ads on television have created a well developed stereotype on women as well as men. The media defines power as something that only men have which isn’t entirely true. You don’t need beauty in order to succeed in life; that is just the kind of picture that media paints inside of people’s heads about how they should view the world. The media tries to make women turn into something that they’re not. Sexism is a very crucial weapon that has the ability to affect almost every aspect of a woman’s life, preventing them from accomplishing their full potential. This situation affects more of our daily lives than we seem to notice. Society often portrays women as being weaker, and there are countless examples describing how one gender dominates the other in Miss Representation.
As a final standpoint, the value of women seems within their bodies and not within their mind while it should be the exact opposite. This distracts them in making a difference. Media takes a standpoint that power is defined by men and women only follow. Media looks at how women look but not at what they have done; it is sickening to see that no one does anything to change it either. Everybody should have their own positive vision on what women could be, because after all that they have proved, women deserve more than just taking care of the family and being a regular housewives. They are capable of doing much more than that. People shouldn’t just look at a female as being less competent than a male. Everybody should be treated equally regardless of race, health issue, or gender. Thus, a woman’s voice and mind should be more powerful than her sexuality and looks.
