from getting in any kind of trouble. First off they need to write everything down and keep track of everything they have to do on a day to day basis. This is so that they won’t forget about anything said to them. Also calling your squad leader the night before to clarify whether or not you’re still on a specific detail. Now I will give some steps that the leadership can take to make sure the soldier knows what is expected of them and whether they are on a detail or not. First things first, it is the squad leader’s responsibility to make sure the soldier understands everything that he/ she is doing on a day to day basis. This includes duty places, details, classes, and formations. A Non Commissioned Officer takes on this responsibility the moment they put on their rank. One step they can take is actually getting all the details of anything put out before the order is given, this would help eliminate any confusion. (Remember there’s no such thing as common sense in the military and the definition of a direct order would entail that “everything” that is expected is put out in that same order, not receiving a new detail every other day then blaming the soldier for not knowing when you never told them.) Also if a soldier normally has a hard time remembering anything you could type out the details on a piece of paper, write a counseling for it, and have the soldier sign, receive, and keep it on them at all times. This would prevent either party from blaming one another for leaving anything out or forgetting anything. Also the leader could call the soldier about anything they are tasked out to do the night before they have to do it if the soldier doesn’t call first. This would eliminate any possibility of excuses as well, “we are all humans we forget things sometimes and our lives shouldn’t be ruined all because we make mistakes”.
