Over the summer, I further learned the value of developing good resources and networking. Influential people like my professors, deans, and administrators are good examples of those who I intend to use as such. By simply sharing their knowledge of study with me in and out of the classroom, they are giving me ample support. But I could also benefit from the sharing of personal life experiences, in which they feel are relevant and beneficial to my field of study and/or myself. Making personal connections with those who are dealt with frequently is vital to succeed. It is not only beneficial to professors and other resources (beyond work), but to me as a student as well. The connections allow me to better acquaint with them and see them as real people.
Although I feel much more prepared than many of my Freshman peers and even several of my STP family, because of the numerous preparatory schools and programs I have attended and all of the advice and wisdom that my elders have shared with me, I still have one main concern. How do you know that you are choosing the right field of study? I feel that I will never know for sure that I am doing the right thing, for myself. A subject may be a good choice, but is it the right choice.. Is there ever an undeniable feeling of contentment that occurs when you’ve reached your destined place in the world? Maybe that’s not a question that can be answered by anyone else and I’ll have to make the discovery for myself. Regardless, I am anxious to find out what happens and ready to begin my journey.
