In male college students, 59.3% of the males chose Nike, 14.8% of the males chose New Balance, 7.4% of the males chose Adidas and 18.5% of the males chose other brands. Most male students chose Nike. The percentage of males wearing New Balance is close to the percentage of wearing other brands. The percentage of the males that chose Nike is eight times as much as those who chose Adidas.

In female college students, 76.9% of the females chose Nike, 23.1% of the females chose New Balance. The percentage of the females chose Adidas and other brands both are 0%.

In comparing pie charts 2 and 3, it is obvious that female college students are more willing to choose Nike than male students.

Discussion

Based on the analysis of the data, Nike is the most popular brand in gym. For Cassidy’s (2006, 2007) studies, Nike’s sales raised about 11% in 2005. Nike’s sales are more than other athletic footwear brands. They occupy a large proportion of athletic footwear marketing. In this study, the researcher studied whether Nike is the athletic footwear brand college students wear most in gym. According to the data that the researcher collected in gym, it is obvious to see Nike occupies the largest percentage and 65% of students wore it in gym. This result is similar to Cassidy’s studies, both of them can show Nike is more popular than other athletic footwear brands. In this study, Nike was selected more than other athletic footwear in gym. Therefore, it can prove Nike is the athletic footwear brand college students wear most in gym.

There are still some limitations in this study. The amount of female participants is about half of the amount of male participants. It may cause the data of female students’ is less accurate than male students’.

Conclusion

This study made an observation about whether Nike is the athletic footwear brand college students wear most in gym. The researcher went to the gym and collected the data that which athletic footwear brands college students wear most. The results were from data analysis and it showed that college students wear Nike more than other brands in gym. Based on the previous study and this study, it is obvious that Nike is more popular than other athletic footwear brands. Nike is the most popular brand of shoe for college student who use the gym.
