Dark literature is vital to our society. People, especially teenagers, need to have their feelings and thoughts discussed, and novels like 13 Reasons Why make that process easier. Many people have the idea that not being perfect and happy all the time is a sign of weakness, rather opening up about what one is struggling with and how they feel is a sign of strength. Teens need to realize the impact they have on each other, that impact can either be positive or negative. Jay Asher’s Hannah Baker is the example of that impact.
