Research questions state the purpose of the research, the variables of interest and the relationship to be examined. The relation is so important because research questions give direction to formulate the objectives and then the hypothesis, it is like a guidance.
- Define the term “epistemology of investigation” and how many epistemological philosophies are there in investigation and what are their characteristics?
It is a logic system, where is derived of a logic way the rules which are used as principle between the science and non-science. It is also called “methodology” because it is related with the process to reach the scientific knowledge.
- Objectivist epistemologies:
- Materialism: only recognizes the existence of material bodies.
- Positivism: demand to be subject to demonstrable facts and be true to reality.
- Empiricism: has the criterion of truth as the basis of experience.
- Mechanism: the possible explanation lies in nature and is explained by the movement of bodies in space
- Operationalism: Reality is explained in terms of measurement.
- Subjectivist epistemologies:
- Idealism: Reality is doubtful and unprovable, false and impossible, only ideas are based.
- Rationalism: trust in reason, determination of beliefs or techniques.
- Perspectivism: there is a relationship between objects and subjects.
- Interpretativism or hermeneutics: knowledge through the interpretation of human behavior. There are several realities depending on the subject's interpretation.

Ontology is associated with a central question of whether social entities need to be perceived as objective or subjective.

- Subjective: qualitative non-experimental designs.
