In our country the problems of mobility are very common to observe. Currently the technological development shows us new transport systems such as the controversial case of UBER which offers a special service to the users safer and more expensive that a public transport, like the taxis. Why is it a controversial case? UBER is a 100% legal business. The problem is that the app is in conflict with the special rules for public transport in the country becoming an illegal service, but the acceptance of users with the app for the attention and quality of the service initiates a major conflict mainly with taxi drivers. Colombia is not the first one that has this problem of transport. Other countries found a solution to this app, for this reason I will tell you why UBER must be legal in our country.
The company of UBER started to work in 2009 with a app that has the function of employ a practical service where the users can use their smartphones to call when they need a vehicle through the app, with the time this app is accepted for people of different countries for some reasons, the quality of the service, vehicles of high tech, a friendly attention.. Etc. that made this bigger until be an international company. Now The Wall Street Journal estimates Uber is worth about $50 billion, almost twice its value in 2014. John-Kurt Pliniussen of Queen's University's School of Business says that the reason is simple "People around the world love it."
John-Kurt Pliniussen says "This company is so big and so pervasive, it's like the internet of transportation," in some words Uber is giant, so huge that it conflicts with principal cities of some countries, either by taxi drivers, any rules or different circumstances that create problems. Cities like London, Río of Janeiro or Mexico D.F. have been regulated the service, but how these cities found a solution to Uber? All of them have faced manifestations against of the app, in London the drivers of Uber circulate legally because their journeys are regulated through a GPS, for UK this is legal because the GPS is like a taximeter. In Rio of Janeiro (Brazil), the judges said that the ban violated the rights to free enterprise and for this reason Uber is not illegal but the government have to insist in a special annual tax for this company and in Mexico D.F, the government implemented a measure where the driver of Uber have to pay 1,5% of the winnings for the city per journey. All of these solutions in different parts of the world have had good results with the coexistence between the taxi drivers and Uber service.
