“come with nothing you say, come with just a desire, to truly, madly deeply open up”. As I perceived the above lines, the writer of this “piece” is asking people to let go of all pre-conceived notions and start afresh, to take a journey inward, to discover themselves. I think the reason why I have so strongly associated self-awareness with the reality of different perception is because I believe that an unbiased measurement is the first step towards working on the faults. As an analogy, if I am afraid to step on the weighing scale to measure my weight, I would never be able to work towards losing weight (assuming the objective is to lose weight). As Humans, we are subconsciously fairly biased towards ourselves and have a tendency to tweak the metaphorical “weighing scale” to our advantage.

The real learnings that I took away from this session were not only from the process of selecting stimuli to create information, organizing this information, interpreting this information and reacting to this information but also from learning to learn to disassociate myself from the intuitive me to address me in the third person. In my opinion this is one way of being neutral to myself and the other person and would help me be more sympathetic and more receptive to the other person’s reasoning. Like they say all pieces of the jigsaw fall into place, I think all the other knowledge areas in areas of interpretation like stereotyping, perceptual defence will automatically fall into place.

To conclude, I have established that perception is not an absolute science but a journey that everyone needs to take towards being aware about themselves and towards being aware about others.
