Results
From my questionnaire, I got the result that 74.19 (23 out of 31) percent of passengers at Berlin Tegel Airport have economy class ticket. And 54.84 percent of them spend between 100 euro to 200 euro while shopping at duty free store. The mode is yes when it comes to the question whether they visit duty free store almost every time they travel. The main reason they shop at duty free is because the prices are relatively cheap. And at most purchasing of perfumes & cosmetics, spirits and tobaccos are preferred by passengers. To analyze the cross table for final result; there are total of sixteen passengers with economy class ticket that spends 100-200 euro while shopping at duty free. And five passengers with business ticket who that spends 200-300 euro while shopping at duty free store. So there is a positive correlation between ticket price and duty free basket value. Because as ticket price increases the duty basket value increases as well. And as ticket price decreases, duty free basket value decreases as well.
Summary, Comments and Critiques
Summary
The reason behind why I did the research is my interest in duty free industry and how big the industry is, and how important traveling is for the industry. My main question was about the correlation between ticket value and duty free basket value. And The outcome from the research is that there is a positive relationship between ticket price and duty free basket. I was expecting the opposite, that there won’t be a positive relationship.
Comments and Critiques
My questionnaire consisted of total six question, but only two of them helped me to answer my main question. I should’ve made the other questions more relatable to my topic. Also my questionnaire participant number was a bit small.
Implications
If this research will be done in the future, all of the questions I used in the questionnaire should be more relatable to the main topic. And there should be more participants than thirty-one, because it is very small group but the duty free retail is very large and global market.
