3. Motivation, spirit, and believe important to be success
From this film, we have learned that in order to be successful, every individual has to have a high motivation to achieve the expected goals. We can see that ‘Chris’ has got the motivation from his colleagues when he was trying to be the coach in the company's stock in hopes of becoming one of the workers there. He was excited to try his luck in the company since seeing one of his employees owns a luxury car and it was a motivation for him to succeed. In this film, we can see that Chris makes his son as his passion to succeed to change their lives. Although his life was not as what he expected would be,he never forgets to profess his religious beliefs.
4. Communication is important for life
Communication is an important aspect for a person to be successful and happy. In this regard, communication is very important for business to influence consumers to be certain of business. By this film we can see that ‘Chris’ trying to communicate with the buyer for the goods it sells. He tried to influence the buyer that he is the best product from other products. In addition it also ‘Chris’ wise use communication to convince others that he had no problem despite the fact that he has a lot of problems to be faced. Besides that, he tried to communicate with her by constantly giving advice and encouragement to their children even if they are had many problems. He always communicate with their children is because they have not given much thought to the problems they face.
5. Love and Responsibility of a father to his son
In this film we can see the love and responsibility of a father to his son after being left by his wife. ‘Chris’ is a loving and responsible father to son ‘Christopher’. He was willing to sacrifice everything and not willing to part with his son. In this film, he is willing to drink plain water and gives food to his son because his son does not want to be hungry. Besides that, at a time they want to live in foster homes but just accept her house only because he did not want to part with his son, he did not agree to stay in the homes. Christopher’s son never complained to his father, although one time they had to sleep in the train station toilet. This shows the family ties and affection between them is very strong.
6. Risk of Business
Every business has a risk to be borne by the individual or company. What new entrepreneurs can learn from this film has been presented in terms of the challenges, opportunities and being brave to take the risk. One of the lessons taught is when we do not have sufficient skills and knowledge about the business, never ever take a risk. An example from this movie, ‘Chris’ had used all his money to run direct sales business by selling scanners that are more expensive in term of the price itself compared to other machines beside it even more sophisticated. At the end, he could not sell the machines to cover all expenses of his family. Apart from that, as entrepreneurs we should not to trust others like when ‘Chris’ asked for help from buskers to keep his scanner. The device finally carried away by that person. Apart from that, persistence, patience, honesty are also the keys if you want to succeed as entrepreneurs like ‘Chris’ in this film.
Connection with Interpersonal Communication
Pursuit of Happyness is the movie that our group chose. It is because this movie contains a lot of Interpersonal Communication and full of positive ways of good life and i regards to achieve goals. Personally, this movie is a good movie and undoubtedly, has a class and morale to make the life worth.
Interpersonal Communication is a tool that helps us connects people and it is really important because we are facing many things, people and situations in life. From the movie (Pursuit of Happyness), we can see many things about interpersonal communication are related. Now, we will discuss about the relations of Interpersonal Communications from this movie one by one.
Firstly, we look at the hero in this movie, Chris Gardner. He is a simple man who works as a salesman. He sells a portable bone-density scanner because he believes that machine will be a big thing and many people will buy it. He has also invested all of his money for this machine! Unfortunately, in 1981 (the time when this movie is set up), that machine is an expensive item and is not so important. He goes through a very hard time selling this machine. But, he is not giving up and he uses many types of interpersonal communication to sell the machine.
When he meets the doctor to introduce about the machine, he always smiles and speaks politely same as when he introduces about the product of investment and saving while he is taking the internship practical for a broker job. It shows that he has a very good quality in interpersonal communication. He knows all about the product and can persuade the audience to hear and feel comfortable with him. He also can fix the machine when it was broken and sold it. It proves that he is capable and know what he must and has to do.
Also he never gives up so easy although he feels tired because he cannot sell the products. He always tries to find another prospects for people to buy his products and then he can finish up his products to get money. In the end, he succeeds to sell all the machines that he brought and get all the money that he invested for the machines. He also get back two of his machines that is lost before.
Chris Gardner proofs he is good in interpersonal communications when he attends the interview. He comes with a bad attire because he has no time to change his clothes (He is rushing in from the lock up to arrive on time for his interview). He knows that the interviewer feels uneasy about that but he tries to convince the interviewer to choose him with his denotative and connotative meanings when he speaks. For example, He said that he will say he does not know if he really does not know the answer for the question but he will try to get the answer for the question. He also said that he can make sure he will do anything to make sure that all his jobs are done.
When he sees Mister Jay Twistle, a manager for Dean Witter Reynolds (The company that he will get the internship training to be a broker), He tries to persuade and tell about himself by all means necessary ways including settle the quest of Rubik cubes that being the phenomena on that time. Even Jay Twistle said that the quest is too difficult and never can be solved but Chris still stay calm and say
