network has more than 50 remote input devices at local sheriffs and police departments (www,txdps.state.tx.us).

Positives effects of new technologies on communication:

Some of the positive effects that new technology has on communication are: allowing us to keep in touch, technology has made communication across long distances easier, phone calls are faster than telegrams and telegrams are faster than letters. Phones have made life easier and more pleasant because there is no go between, while allowing users to hear each other’s voice, cell phones take this one step further, people to speak with one another no matter where they are. Technology advances that have simplified and improved personal communication, it has had the same effect on business. Communication is near instantaneous whether they are rooms or countries apart; Video conferencing has allowed companies to have workers scattered around the globe and still hold meetings and discussions. Business networking has been made easier by social media and online networks designed specifically for that purpose.

Companies can expand beyond their local marker and gain a wider customer base by maintaining an active online presence (www.opposingviews.com). Technology has also improved communication for disabled people and made it possible where it previously wasn’t. Hearing aids boost the hearing of partially deaf people, making it easier to understand speech, while cochlear implants restore hearing to the completely deaf (www.opposingviews.com).

Negative effects of technologies on communication:

Some of the negative effects of technology on communication are Email, people spend more time on emails than on other projects, email being received and the tendency to frequently check have led to distracted workers. A poorly written email can lead to confusion, rather than clarity in the workplace. Text messaging, people are more likely to pull out their phone and start texting while at the dinner table, while having a conversation and most importantly while driving, these actions of texting can be rude, lead to misunderstanding and cause serious accidents resulting in death. Social media can present another negative effect while it can help you stay in touch with family and friends it can also be dangerous to your career and life, the content posted through personal social media can be used to either fire or deny people work and promotions, cyber bulling is another problem on social media, The revolution of social media has allowed people to make new friends, rekindle old relationships and gain new interest, but it has also destroyed marriages, broken up friendship, caused people to lost jobs and interest in things they once loved (chron.com).

The specialized technology I use is social media, although if used in a negative way it has negative effects, but using it in the right way has positive effects. I use social media as a way of staying in touch with my family and friends whom I don’t get to see often, it has allowed me to located family members and friends.
