3) Review the “Top Ten Strategic CIO Issues for 2013” article by Bob Evans of Oracle. Select your top 3 issues (out of these 10) that you believe would be of primary importance to your organization or to organizations in general. Again, you should have at least two external references to help support your choice
Business and Information technology teams today are facing disconcerting stages of internal and external challenges, just as CEOs are now in a great demand of more value of business from IT, customers and clients are demanding more-intelligent engagements and flexible improvements from the Information business that they buy from. Keeping this in context, CIOs wanted to a way not just to manage both of business and IT simultaneously, but have to execute and conceive new ways of approaches for both of them simultaneously. Keeping this in context, strategic CIOs are now radically and challengingly reworking everything from enterprise architecture to social-media policies and from cloud-computing deployments to customer-experience in a true effort to simplify Information Technology and thereby fund innovation and growth. The top 10 strategic CIO issues of 2013 are Simplify IT and Transform Your Spending, Lead the Social Revolution, Unleash Your Company’s Intelligence, Embrace the Engagement Economy, Future-Proof Your IT Architecture, Upgrade “Cloud Strategy” to “Business Transformation Enabled by the Cloud, Transform Big Data into Big Insights, Big Vision, and Big Opportunities, Preside over a Shotgun Wedding, Lead with Speed, Bend the Value Curve.
Among these top 10 Strategic CIO issues of 2013, I personally have my view that the top 3 concerns of an organization are Simplify IT and Transform Your Spending, Future-Proof Your IT Architecture and
Big Vision and Big Opportunities. Organizations have often taken a piecemeal to their IT infrastructure and systems. As a result of this, the organization is effected with an infrastructure which is ill-equipped to handle the current needs of the organization or the enterprise. To be more precise, the maintenance of Information Technology infrastructure and the systems requires an effective cost and resource requirement. Companies and organizations today are spending an increasing share and investing of their
resources to manage the current existing systems, rather than using the money to innovate and spend on new technologies and systems which are competitive and have an advantage over the current systems in the market. McKinsey & Company has found that most of the companies that are investing on IT maintenance and use Information Technology to gain a competitive enjoy on a higher overall performance against their opposition group. These are crystal clear indicators that the organizations and companies are trying to spend too much on maintaining current information systems. It also causes difficulties in the management of human resources for the IT department.
Future proofing of IT architecture also is one of the top concern, IT companies today are now focusing only more on meeting the present current project completion into consideration rather than thinking about the future Endeavour’s of the same. They should be well aware of the modern apps, Business intelligence applications, optimized systems and fault tolerance systems.
