Both Apple and Microsoft are among the most valuable companies in the United States and around the world. These two companies are dominant in the field of advanced technology, software and gadgets.

Although they are opponents in the same market area, the two companies can have high profits because they specialize in different areas and attract customers with different characteristics. While Apple focused on the design, security (Apple’s computers are less susceptible to viruses) and diversifying its products, which justifies the higher price, Microsoft has more domain in operating systems.

Looking specifically at the Microsoft, it is an American corporation headquartered in Redmond, Washington, USA. This company providence the invention and services related to computing.

Microsoft was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen on April 4th, 1975 to develop and sell BASIC software for the Altair 8080, which was the first microcomputer.

With revenues of Microsoft, Bill Gates earns approximately 250 dollars per second, 15,000 dollars per minute and close to 20 million dollars per day.

Bill Gates handed over the CEO position on January 13th, 2000, to Steve Ballmer, an old college friend of Gates and employee of the company since 1980, creating a new position for himself as Chief Software Architect. On January 4th, 2014, Steve Ballmer stepped down as CEO of Microsoft and was succeeded by Satya Nadella, who previously led Microsoft's Cloud and Enterprise division.

Turning finally to some general information about the financial part of the company, Microsoft had a net income of 5.36 billion dollars and it rose slightly until 2004. 2005 saw an even sharper rise, followed by a levelled of at about 12.6 in 2006. After that, the net income fluctuate from 2007 to 2010. In 2011, Microsoft reached a peak of 23.15 billion dollars, but they fell again to 16.98. There was a sharp increase between 2012 and 2013, when figures reached over 22 billion dollars. Last year, the company saw its income dropped to 12.19 billion dollars.

In conclusion, and now comparing the market value, Steve Jobs’ company is now worth approximately 716,700 million dollars and Microsoft is worth about 349,890 million dollars.
