Marjane Sartrapi and the Role of Setting in Her Character

In the later part of the graphic novel, Marjane shows how and why she wished to be the Last Prophet. She wanted to be the person who could change everything around her with her actions and her words. As a child, her dream to change the society and everyone around her were due to the circumstances that she did not enjoy. The conflict between her home’s environment and the environment of the rest of the society caused her to wish to be the last prophet. The reason she only shared her book with her grandmother describes her relationship with her grandmother. She did not share the book with her mother or her father; there were some points in the book that contradicted her parents’ acts as well and she was scared to be pressurized by another part of her life.

Conclusion

A constant feeling of being judged and stereotyped based on nationality and religion is something that gets on one’s nerves. People could act out in different ways. Marjane took to graphic novels. She used art to express herself, her past and tried to shorten the gap between the vast cultural difference between the west and the east.

The setting, time and life experiences were the main role in her work as they were based on her life. She has used her work to depict and nullify/neutralize the previous experiences of her life.
