handled 36.54, Singapore 30.92, and Shenzen 24.2 in the year end of 2015.” (Worldshipping.org) The three leading world container ports utilize TEUs to manage their efficiency on their imports. With the use of a universal measure unit ports can unload more efficiently because they are only tending to a strict unit size instead of tending to multiple size cranes to unload the cargo off ships. This will enable a better flow of traffic in ports given the ports have enough chassis and cranes with skilled operators to reduce congestion and operations. Both the top 3 ports in the U.S. and the world utilize TEUs for the time being it seems to be the most efficient.’
In conclusion, the ILWU- Long Beach/ Los Angeles Port Strike of 2014-2015 disrupted many companies supply chains across the country. The strike delayed a quarter of the U.S. import market. The ILWU used aggressive and inappropriate tactics to renegotiate multiple parts of the contracts to be in their favor. Both sides claim that they want the ports to be efficient but their relationship to reach such an endeavor is not fair when the ILWU is highly favored over the PMA.
