because finding a good stress reliever can help you with every part of your life. I also think that this hookup culture is helping to boost both genders self-esteem. After a quick hookup both the man and woman feel good that they are want because of how they look or how they act. This show they are both desirable in some way to someone. Everyone wants to feel need at times and this is a fun and safe way to get that feeling.
The most important reason that it can be good for both is because it allows both genders to not be tied down and allows more flexibility in relationships. Having a job or focusing on your education is important so if you have two projects, three quizzes and a exam how can you have time to fight with your significant other and text them for three hours all in the same week. It is more convenient to just got to a bar and hook up with someone for a night and not have to deal with the emotional side of the relationship. This allows both genders to focus on the important things like there education or a job helping them have a better future.
Gender norms operate within the hookup culture by portraying women to be always good looking and perfect. These stereotypes put pressure on women like Wade said “it’s the relentless pressure to be hot that makes some women feel like shit all the time and the rest feel like shit some of the time” (Wade 1) the stereotypes hurt women because they are looked down upon for not always looking there best. This pressure to always look their best has become a norm for women and is still carried throughout hookup culture.
Women are also considered weak a frail this is also considered a norm even though it is just a stereotype just as wade said “But, Rosin rightly argues, this wrongly stereotypes women as fragile flowers whose self-esteem lies between their legs.” (Wade 1) these false stereotypes that are now considered norms are carried throughout hookup culture and I don’t think they will be going away for at least the next few generations. I do think that the hookup culture is combating double standards particularly the double standard that wemon are slut if they sleep around a lot. I also think that the hookup culture isn’t what is changing sexual double standard or to change gender norms I think it is the women of this generation and hopefully the next generation.
