Human rights are highly considered in both Germany and America. There are many similarities and few differences of human rights of both countries. Both countries have freedom of speech, but they are slightly different. In Germany, the federal constitutional court limited free speech that specifically endorses neo-Nazi doctrines (historycentral, February 25, 2009). In America, although the constitution provides for freedom of speech, a person can not accuse another person of defamation and can not put pressure on publishers, editors, and journalists informally (historycentral, February 25, 2009). In the same way, internet freedom in both nations is really “free”. In other words, German and American governments can monitor e-mail and internet chat rooms, and there are no government restrictions on access to the internet. That is to say, either you live in America or Germany, freedom will always be controlled by Governments. Academic freedom and cultural events of both countries are restricted in the same way as freedom of speech; however, Germany government bans Nazi propaganda. Last but not least, German constitution prohibits practices which are torture and other cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishments. According to 2009 reports on human right practices, there haven't been any cases that German government officials applied prohibited activities in duty . On the contrary, while American constitution prohibits the same activities, there are still reports that government officials employed such practices to obtain confessions. In February human rights NGO reported that 80 prisoners were handcuffed, stripped and beat with iron bars and sticks for protesting about room space for prayers (historycentral, February 25, 2009). Surely, a person is more likely to get treated with those activities when he or she commits crimes in America. Sadly, nothing is perfect, but all those negative activities can be avoided if a person does not commit any crimes.
Which countries is better to live in? the choice is yours. Germany and America are both great places to live in, although there are advantages and disadvantages in both nations. But there is one thing will never change that the sun and the moon rise every day in both nations. To a person, both countries have pros and cons. No matters which countries you choose to live in, there is always a gold mine underneath your feet like the story “three feet from gold” of R. U. Darby.
