- Introduction
- Research is one thing that brings out the understanding of various issues of interest to the individual. Research topics are usually expounded well through citation of research work carried out by the author.
- The three articles are leaned towards doctoral identity. Doctorial identity refers to a doctorial scholar in the community. Various aspects of the article will be highlighted in the perspective of doctorial identity. Doctorial identity is an important aspect in the life of a scholar since it defines what role to play in society.
- The first, this essay is about comparison of three articles by different authors. The three articles authors, Weidman and Stein (2003) discusses “socialization of doctoral studies to academic norms.” This article looks into issues related to the socialization into occupational roles.
- The second authors, Baker and Lattuca (2010) discusses “developmental networks and learning as a perspective on identity development.” The article highlights doctoral identity.
- The third authors, Visser, Visser and Schlosser (2003) compares “critical thinking distant education and traditional education.” This article is more concerned with the aspects of distance education and traditional education. This article gives an understanding of these two models of education through critical thinking.
- All three articles have some common attributes. Firstly there has been wide use of work produced by other authors. The literature review in a way tries to give clear understanding of all aspects addressing the research questions. Secondly, the articles have commonalities in the aspect of topic. They are focused on matters relating to education and roles of the learner in the society. These commonalities are interesting since they are showing the various approaches to education and scholars that individuals have. This is shown through the argument of the authors.
C) Thesis statement; Doctoral identity is an important aspect of scholars.
- Comparison of Research Questions
- Each of the articles has research questions. For article one, the research question includes: What is the responsibility of the author?
What is the expected behavior of the scholar?
Is socialization of persons into cognitive perspective concerned with roles in
learned activities?
Do doctoral projects have impact on teachers?
What influence do doctoral projects have on student affair?
Article two research questions include: Has enrollment for doctoral classes been
improving notable?

For article three, the research questions include:
Do instructors use critical thinking in lecture halls?
How is the learning environment in distant learning compared to tradition
Learning?
Are students and instructors helping other learners to become critical

B) The research questions asked by the authors of the articles being compared are common in that they are trying to bring about explanation regarding the topics in focus. The research questions are all related to impacts of various aspects of education on scholars or learners.
The research questions are different in that they address impact on different education levels. They are different for they tackle different systems of education; for example distance learning education and traditional education. The differences and similarities may be important since they bring out different attributes of various education aspects related to doctoral learning. The questions are directed to instructors, scholars, faculty and students.
111. Comparison of Literature Reviews
A) The literature reviews of these articles have various similarities. One of the similarities is that they are all based in education. Secondarily, the literature reviews are aimed at bringing out explanations regarding various influences of education and scholars.
B) The conclusions I can draw from the shared themes is that doctoral education is very important for scholars to build networks. It is a global concern for everyone to pay attention to. Secondarily, form the article it is important for scholars to build networks. This is because the networks are necessary for development of the scholars towards their occupational role.
1V. Comparison of Research Participants
A) All the articles had samples. Article by Weidman and Stein (2003) offered a questionnaire based on certain demographics. Article by Baker and Lattuca (2010) utilized doctoral students and thirdly, Visser, Visser and Schlosser (2003) were taken from the students in the institution.
B) Commonalities shared themes between articles are that all participants were advanced students above the baccalaureate level. Some were at the master’s and doctoral levels and acted to voluntarily participate.
V. Comparison of Limitations (I recommend these two sub-headings)
- All the study had limitations. One of the limitations related to study by Weidman and Stein titled; Socialization of doctoral students to academic norms lack of adequate information. This research touches more than 50 years as mentioned before. Baker & Lattuca (2010) say that it was very hard to find all necessary information related to socialization efforts for fifty years. The other limitation of this research is evident criticism from various quarters. From the research, it I evident that the points being highlighted have been subjected to too much criticism from concerned researcher in the same field. The sample used by the author happened to be another challenge. This is because it was hard to acquire a convincing sample
