I really like the music video we watch today. Matisyahu’s “Sunshine” is such a good song that both the rhythm and content are great. I notice that there are coherent changes in this song. At the beginning, Matisyahu was tired and confused in the dessert. The darkness, the scorpion, the strain and the fire represent the loss of identity. But an angel appeared and started the journey with Matisyahu. In the in-class conversation, most of my classmates think it a song about drug addiction but I think it may have something to do religion because professor said Matisyahu is a Jew. I am catholic and know a few history about Jewish. I thinks I need to put more efforts on the research after this class. What I learned in this class is not only the importance of critical thinking but the importance of research. Any good understanding needs referential resources.

Language register is the level of formality with which you speak. Different situations and people call for different registers.

- Formal academic: Academic writing typically requires a formal, professional tone. This style is impersonal and often follows a prescriptive format. The speaker uses complete sentences, avoids slang and may use technical or academic vocabulary. It is likely that the speaker will use fewer contractions, but opt instead for complete words.

- Email/Text/ Tweet: This register is conversational in tone. It is the language used among and between friends. Words are general, rather than technical. This register may include more slang and colloquialisms.
