Such theory was the basis for FRC East introducing the Voluntary Protection Program Passport was in 2007. This small pamphlet is comprised of a variety of activities that employees can participate in to promote personal health and wellness and the overall importance of safety. Employees can complete a minimum of twenty activities and as a reward the employees are granted five hundred dollars cash award. This incentive has been very successful in keeping the employees focused on health and wellness in the facility. Raising awareness and getting employee personally involved has evoked a much more positive outlook on safety and its profound importance.
Other best practices in regards to employee incentive programs include the concept of Safety Jackpot cards. Various companies have adopted this program. Coca Cola bottling company’s policy states, “Employees involved in an incident may receive a Safety Jackpot game card for an acceptable safety suggestion relating to the unsafe act that resulted in the incident” (Peavey, 2008).
The Fleet Readiness Center East maintains a sound safety policy. The overall atmosphere is one that stresses the importance of safety. Great improvements in lost workdays, the implementation of VPP and the adaptation of incentive programs demonstrate FRC East’s commitment as an organization to safety.

Ben, this is an excellent start for the final paper. You’re at a distinct advantage in that FRC is already working on changing their safety culture through VPP. You certainly should be proud of the effort and the progress. My challenge to you for this course is to look very critically at the FRC program against the text and other references and see if there is anything they could or should do better or differently. Not that I would expect you to try to change FRC’s direction, but just as an exercise for the critical thinking portion of your brain. I look forward to reading your next submission.
