One of the most troublesome issues of the 21st century is world pollution. Currently the environment is so contaminated that it is difficult to breath without feeling a choking sensation, a problem in which urgent measures should be taken. Surely a single individual cannot be blamed for the world’s irresponsible contamination, however every person should take care of his or her habitat.

In the last couple of decades if not just years, many presentations and international conferences have been held to deal with waste treatment, recycling, soil and water contamination, as well as a way of eradicating green house gases. For sure combined efforts and consolidation can only help in the mutual war towards the ongoing environmental disasters. For instance, governments should impose codes, regulation and more strict pollution policies for highly contaminating industries such as automotive, oil extraction, mining, chemical and others. This would highly reduce pollution in the atmosphere helping towards the elimination of contaminants and highly toxic substances that not only harm the planet but us as well. We could also think about supporting recycling projects and reducing our use of wood and subsequently increasing the quantity of natural reserves with thousands and thousands of planted acres of trees.

However, the influence of individuals over the environment should not be ignored. If we do not accept that our planet is our home, we will never be able to adequately take care of it. We have to contribute every day to the preservation of nature and environment. For example, by saving energy, in our smallest and most simple actions we can thoroughly make this possible, actions such as switching off lamps, TV’s, computers and everything that consumes energy when we are not using them. Then we would have to initiate a massive recycling project, a project in which everyone is compromised. We could also demand the automotive industry to begin fabricating more friendly-environment vehicles, with less toxic emissions. Thirdly we would have to eradicate chopping our trees down, given the fact that these are our planets’ air filters, they give us fresh oxygen and reduce global-warming, but if we take them all down for consumerist ends then we will harm our planet even more.

In conclusion, we, the international community must see for our planets’ best interests representing those individuals who really want a change, and us as the people and for the people, must demand that these environmental issues which are now obviously out of hand, be handled by local and international authorities as well as individuals. This conscience of respect and care must be brought upon our current generation so that our future is not compromised.
